Water, onions, garlic, nettle, potato, baker’s yeast – all these will help to deal with garden pests effectively. So there is no need to use chemicals.

Having plants in the garden, sooner or later pests will appear. In fact, it is inevitable. Then you have to stand up to fight them. Of course, the easiest way is to reach for ready-made chemicals, but their use is associated with the elimination of these beneficial insects. What is more, they have a harmful effect not only on our health but also on the whole environment.

Therefore, it is worth choosing ecological solutions. We present proven natural ways to fight garden pests. However, you need to wait a while for their effect and repeat spraying and watering several times

Certainly, the most important thing is to react quickly – as soon as you notice something worrying. This will prevent the spread of plant diseases

Shop smart

At first, we suggest how you can protect yourself from the appearance of pests too quickly. It all starts already in the store. When shopping, look carefully at the plants and simply choose those that are healthy.

Any discoloration or holes in the leaves should alarm us, as well as damaged bark or deformed buds. There is no point in buying such plants – not only will they themselves be sick, but in addition they can infect other specimens and the problem in the garden will become really big.

Shower pests

Often the simplest solutions are the most effective. For a start it is worth using … water. Under the influence of a strong stream of water you can reduce the presence of some pests. You just have to remember that such a solution will work mainly in the case of potted plants. Regularity is also important – the shower should be repeated every few days.

In addition, the water should be lukewarm, not cold, so as not to cause a thermal shock. The potting soil itself is also better to cover in advance with foil, so that it does not flow out, and afterwards leave it in a shady place – direct sunlight combined with water can cause burns.

Onions and garlic in motion

In the fight against pests such as aphids and spider mites, it is worth using onions (extract or decoction of 200 grams) or garlic (extract of 200 grams of crushed cloves), which has a fungicidal effect and also repels voles.

In addition, cut cloves of garlic should also lubricate the leaves covered with spots of disease

As for the onion stock, you can easily store it for three months in tightly closed jars (you should pour the still hot stock into them).

It is worth noting here that both onions and garlic effectively deal with pests, without endangering the plant itself, let alone the environment

Nettle and potato

Nettle cleanses the human body, speeds up metabolism, helps with arthritis or anemia. Nettle is great not only for humans, but also for garden plants. Nettle can be used to prepare a liquid manure, which provides the plant – through spraying or watering – basic nutrients

In addition, a great way to all aphids, spider mites and butterfly caterpillars is an extract from the stems and leaves of potatoes – at a ratio of 1.2 kg per 10 liters of water

Baker’s yeast

One more kitchen ingredient is useful for protecting plants from garden pests. This is baker’s yeast, which effectively hinders the development of pathogenic fungi (thanks to the fact that they have single-celled fungi in their composition).

To prepare the spray, you only need 100 g of baker’s yeast, half a liter of 3.2% milk and 10 liters of water. You can also add a tablespoon of liquid gray soap. Such a solution, used once a week, will deal with potato blight on tomatoes and cucumbers, and gray mold on strawberries.
