How to Get that Argentine Style Grill on Your Backyard Fireplace

Materials

Barbecuing the traditional Argentine way requires the right materials. You’ll need a large backyard grill, preferably a traditional-style charcoal or wood-fired grill. If you don’t have one, look for one online or in a local hardware store. You will also need to gather fuel such as charcoal briquettes, lump hardwood charcoal, or wood logs. While these are the classic materials for Argentine grilling, you can also use gas-powered grills if you prefer.

In addition to the fire source, you will need other supplies such as long-handled tongs and a brush for cleaning the grill grates. Make sure you have plenty of heavy-duty aluminum foil for wrapping up potatoes, peppers, and other ingredients. You’ll also need wooden skewers for kebabs and steak sandwiches. To protect your hands from the heat, pick up a pair of heatproof gloves or mitts. Finally, remember to bring an apron and some paper towels to keep your clothes clean while you cook.

The Right Fuel

Choosing the right fuel for your barbecue can be a tricky decision. If you’re looking to make an Argentinian style grill, you’ll need to pay special attention to the fuel source. The traditional fuel of choice for an Asado is charcoal and wood. Charcoal provides the even heat needed to cook meat slowly and give it that characteristic smoky flavor. Depending on where you live, you may have access to specific varieties of wood used for grilling in Argentina. Mesquite, hickory, and other hardwoods are used to flavor the food as it cooks.

If you don’t have access to wood or charcoal, you can also use propane or natural gas. Propane is easy to find, but it will not provide the same flavor profile as wood or charcoal. Natural gas can provide some of the smokey flavors of wood or charcoal, but you may need to invest in special equipment in order to use it. Regardless of what fuel you use, it’s important to take safety precautions while using it. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions when using any kind of fuel, and make sure to have a fire extinguisher on hand in case of an emergency.
