A luscious green, dense grass can be a beautiful garden ornament on its own. Which species will be able to successfully survive drought? Read on!

During a hot summer, grass in the home garden is at risk of drying out. Intense sunlight and infrequent rains can significantly impair the condition and thus the appearance of the grass. See which seed mixes to use to keep your lawn looking healthy despite the drought.

Drought-tolerant grass seed mixes

Especially in sunny areas, grass seed mixes that are adapted to high temperatures and prepared especially for such areas will work well. Here are a few that will cope with hot, dry days.

1. Sahara grass

This grass species has low water requirements and a high tolerance for use. So it’s perfect for home lawns, play areas, ball fields, and hills and slopes that are particularly exposed to strong sunlight. Sahara grass roots grow up to 70 cm deep into the soil, which allows the grass to regenerate itself.

2. Suchum grass

The Suchum seed mixture is composed of perennial grasses that have a lush green, beautiful color when grown. This species is very resistant to high temperatures and water shortages. It is ideal for use in gardens, play areas, hills, slopes and areas with poor water availability.

3. Barenbrug Water Saver grass

This grass blend is ideal for dry areas without irrigation systems. As much as 80% of Barenbrug Water Saver consists of the noble reed grass variety – its roots spread up to 60 cm, so the grass does not require intensive watering and is extremely drought tolerant

4. Oasis grass

This is another grass species that is particularly drought and heat tolerant. Oasis grass has the lowest soil requirements of all the grass species listed above, making it ideal for sandy and extremely dry areas. This species has a high tolerance for sunlight and does not require frequent watering
