It’s worthwhile to get down to work in the garden to start a new season because meticulously done chores will make plants bloom and bear fruit beautifully. Spring is the busiest time for people who are passionate about gardening. However, the reward for the effort and effort put in is stunning summer flowers and autumn crops

How to clean up your garden after winter?

The first step to prepare your garden for the upcoming spring is to properly clean it up after the winter season. It is a good idea to rake the lawn well of dried leaves and dry grass and to pick up broken twigs. The work should begin when the temperature does not fall below 0 degrees Celsius and there is no more snow in the garden. Usually garden tidying takes place in late March or early April. Raking and combing the lawn is great for aerating the dapples, which results in better growth of the grass, which comes to life with spring. You can help it in this process by applying the right fertilizer to the turf and watering the lawn generously

The first gusts of spring are also the time to prepare your patio for the season. It is worth washing and refreshing garden furniture which is usually tucked away and protected from low temperatures. It is good to clean tiles, rugs and walkways that usually decorate home terraces and balconies. Those who have a pond in the garden should replace the water with fresh water.

How do you prepare plants and shrubs for the arrival of spring?

In the fall, many gardeners cover fruit trees, shrubs and conifers to protect them from the cold and frigid winds of winter. With the arrival of spring, you can slowly uncover your plants from their previously prepared protection. Do not do this abruptly, as trees and shrubs do not like sudden jumps in temperature. In early spring, it is a good idea to trim back hedges and trees and shrubs that will be flowering in late June and early July. Trees that bloom earlier are pruned after the flowers have already fallen off. In the process of pruning, it is a good idea to remove old, withered and damaged branches and cut out those that are growing too densely. This will stimulate young shoots to grow faster and provide the plant with more light. Pruning shrubs and conifers also has an aesthetic dimension, because it gives the crown the right shape and appearance. After this procedure, it is a good idea to feed the plants with a nutritious fertilizer or compost

Spring is the time to plant new plants in the garden

The time to plant new flowers and plants is when the soil is thawed and temperatures are getting warmer. Initially, you should prepare a suitable place in your garden and flowerbeds for planting vegetation that will enhance the appearance of your garden. Remove weeds, fertilize the soil with good quality compost and dig the beds. Afterwards, level the soil and get ready to sow flowers, vegetables, and fruits. Many gardeners plant new trees, fruit trees, and shrubs in the spring. Once it’s a little warmer, you can start planting perennials that will bloom in the summer and fall. For people who love roses and would like to have them in their garden, the best month to plant them is the second half of April. However, April nights can still bring frosts, so it is a good idea to cover cold-sensitive shrubs and flowers with plastic sheeting overnight. Properly preparing the garden for spring allows us to enjoy its beautiful appearance during the summer
