Choosing a gardening sprayer

Handheld, shoulder and backpack sprayers – which sprayer will work best for you? Each has its own advantages.

A sprayer is an essential piece of equipment without which it would be difficult to carry out various treatments on plants in the garden. When buying one, the first thing to consider is the size of your garden and therefore the number of plants you need to take care of. There are three types available in the market so that everyone can choose the best one for themselves.

Handheld sprayers are small (0.5 to 2 liters) and the cheapest. They can be pressurised or pulsed, with the former being more comfortable. They work well for spraying single plants or spraying water on the leaves. It is good to have a brass nozzle and a clearly visible scale of the liquid level inside.

The shoulder sprayer, on the other hand, has a capacity of 3-12 liters and is useful for small and medium gardens. However, carrying it for long periods of time can be cumbersome. It is worth buying a model equipped with a long lance, adjustable nozzle and a safety valve protecting against excessive pressure, as well as a manometer indicating the pressure in the tank at a given moment.

The backpack sprayer, on the other hand, gives you the ability to move around quite freely. It holds from 12 to 20 liters, so it will work well on a large area. Here, too, you should pay attention to the length of the lance, pressure gauge and agitator, which will constantly move the liquid in the tank.
